Two Important Scenes in the New Testament

Consider two very important scenes in the New Testament that show us a dramatic change in one of Jesus’ disciples.

The first scene is Peter the fisherman casting his net into the sea of Galilee. Jesus comes by and says to Peter and Andrew, “Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men” (Matthew 4:18-19).

The second scene shows Peter three and a half years later as an apostle of Christ standing up with the eleven others. See him preaching as a Spirit-filled man, telling the multitude that Jesus of Nazareth has risen from the dead and is both Lord and Messiah of Israel (Acts 2:14-36).

The Five Life Changers

What made the difference between Peter the fisherman and Peter the apostle? I believe the reason is that Peter experienced the five life changers. The encouraging thing for us is that they can change us as they changed him.

Let’s look at the five life changers one by one:

  1. The “Christ”
  2. The Cross
  3. The Resurrection
  4. The Great Commission
  5. The Promise
